Intermedius Lethrinops is a beautiful fish. A must have.
They look very much like this Otopharynx tetrastigma.
Although not so much anymore, there has been a history of confusion surrounding the names of these 2 different fish: the Tramitichromis Intermedius and the Otopharynx Tetrastigma.
The Tramitichromis Intermedius was a lot more popular in the hobby several years ago, and they are fairly hard to find nowadays. They closely resemble the rounded head and body shape of a Red Cap Lethrinops except the "cap" is more of a yellowish green compared to the Otopharynx Tetrastigma which has an electric teal green face and more of a flat head. Both species have 3 prominent spots on their bodies, but the forward most spot on the Tramitichromis sits higher up close to the dorsal fin.
While neither of these fish are actually a true Lethrinops...you can rest assured that there is actually no such thing as a Lethrinops Intermedius.
It's possible that at some point in time when the Tramitichromis became harder to find, the Otopharynx Tetrastigma was a suitable substitute because, other than the differences I've mentioned, both fish are very similar in coloration. This could have led to the confusion in the names and resulting in the confusion or misleading of the name Lethrinops Intermedius in place of the Otopharynx Tetrastigma.

I predict not too far in the future, your 300 gallon will be a planted discus tank. The beauty and colors of discus, their peaceful dispositions, long life and ability to create a lush planted aquascape. I am making the transition to discus in my 500 and could not be happier
I get what you're saying, but being a deep (front to back) tank, I think I might end up with a custom taller tank for the discus I'm growing out. I'm getting some electrical work done to handle the load in a corner of the fish room I never show on camera. Stay tuned my friend.

Not easy to get and when fully colored up is spectacular. Much prettier than an EBA (and I think EBAs are amazing).
